Our own business system, with no ports forwarded.
We run both our companies, Bitlogix in Canada and Bitnode in the United States, on one Odoo system that we host ourselves. It serves two websites to the public without forwarding a single port on our router.

Two companies in two countries, each with its own website and its own records, run by one small team. We wanted one system for all of it, on hardware we control, without opening our network to inbound connections.
At a glance
- Client: us, Bitlogix and Bitnode
- Where: Canada and the United States
- Services: ERP and business apps, Websites, Cybersecurity
- Platform: Odoo, self-hosted
One system, no forwarded ports
Two companies, one system
Both companies and both websites run in one Odoo database, with each company's records kept separate.
Two websites, one editor
bitlogix.tech for Canada and bitnode.tech for the United States are edited in the same place, with each page linked to its counterpart for search engines.
No inbound ports
The server opens an outbound, encrypted tunnel to a gateway, and visitors reach the websites through it, so no port is forwarded on our router. The websites are still public, so they still need updates and sign-in protection like any other site.
Search set up properly
Both sites have structured data on every page, sitemaps submitted to Google Search Console, and indexing settings checked on both domains.
A common setup, and ours
| Common small-business setup | Ours | |
|---|---|---|
| Reaching a server from outside | A port forwarded on the router | An outbound-only encrypted tunnel |
| Two companies | Two systems kept in step by hand | One database, each company kept separate |
| Two websites | Two platforms, two logins | One editor, pages linked for search engines |
What this means for you
A common shortcut is to forward a port on the router so staff can reach an office server or computer from home. Anything left reachable that way, Remote Desktop especially, gets a steady stream of password-guessing attempts.
For a public website, a tunnel like ours avoids forwarding a port. For staff reaching private systems from home, a VPN or a remote access service with multi-factor sign-in is the safer route. We set these up for clients who want to keep a server on-site.
- Odoo with multiple companies and multiple websites in one database
- Self-hosted on our own hardware
- An outbound-only encrypted tunnel to a reverse-proxy gateway
- hreflang links between the Canadian and US version of each page
- schema.org structured data and Google Search Console for both domains
